Students still have 3 weeks left to vote for the 2025 Beehive Book Awards, and we have almost all of the nominees in Granite’s Sora!

The Beehive Book Awards are Utah’s children and teen choice book awards. Students can vote their opinions on any of the nominees. Read on for more details on how the Beehives work and related resources for librarians, teachers and students.

How the Beehives Work

1. School and public librarians curate nominee book lists with input from students

There are currently 6 categories: children’s fiction (10 books), graphic novels (5 kid books and 5 teen books), informational (10 books), picture books (10 books), poetry (5 books), and young adult fiction (10 books).

See the full list of current nominee books on the 2025 Beehive Award Nominees page of the official Beehive Book Awards website. (You can also get a sneak peak of next year’s nominees on the 2026 Beehive Award Nominees page.)

2. Kids and teens throughout Utah vote for their favorites

School and public librarians display and promote the books, sometimes reading them aloud to students, and collect votes from kids in various ways.

For each book a kid or teen reads or has read to them, they can vote one of three responses:

  • 😀 I really liked it!
  • 😐 It was just OK
  • 😒I disliked it

Here’s an example ballot, which you click on to download a full printable page of ballots:

However votes are collected, librarians and teachers can then submit the votes from their school on the Submit a Vote page of the Beehive Book Awards website. For 2025 nominees, the votes need to be submitted there by March 31, 2025.

If your school isn’t collecting votes, students in Granite School District can also share their votes via our new online form: Student Voting Form – 2025 Beehive Book Award Nominees – Granite School District

In Granite’s Sora we instruct students to visit their school library to vote for the Beehives, but we also have a short ebook about the Beehive Book Awards with brief instructions, a link to the Granite Beehives voting form, and all the 2025 nominees.

3. Winning Books are Announced at an Awards Event

The 2025 Winners will be first announced on April 25, 2025 at a free awards event at the Provo Library. Visit the CLAU Beehive website for more information if you are interested in attending.

They will also post the winners on their website and usually provide graphics, posters, and sometimes a video for librarians to share the winners with students.

4. The Future of the Beehives

Starting in 2026 the nomination process and categories for the Beehives will be changing. Visit the CLAU Beehive FAQ page for details on the changes, to ask questions, or find out how to get involved in the future.
