Divergent

One choice can transform you

Written by Veronica Roth

Beatrice lives in a city where the people are divided into five factions. Coming of age means everything in this world of separation. On a specific day every year, all children that are sixteen must choose the faction to which they will devote their lives. If Beatrice chooses to leave Abnegation she will not be allowed to see her family or friends again. Something goes wrong during her test and she is told that she is divergent and that she must keep it a secret, her life depends on it. In the end she chooses to leave the serene life of her faction to join Dauntless. The Dauntless are known for their bravery and lack of fear. They jump off trains, buildings and are very reckless. She’s worried that she may not even be able to make it through initiation. If she gets kicked out she will be faction less. Tris, as she is know to her new faction, is now fighting for her life, making friends with the most unlikely of people, and finds herself in the middle of a battle to save the ones she loves. This was a very exciting and intense read. It was difficult to put the book down.

  1. I loved this book and think it will be as big as Hunger Games. The characters are sympathetic and real, the situations are horrifying and they suck you right in. The writing is well developed so it is easy to identify with Tris. I hope the rest of the series is as well thought out as the first. I am always looking for a good series that does not involve the undead!
