The Magic Cake Shop is a delightfully fun book. The story is told with animated detail and a few illustrated black and white graphic pages. Emma, a plain girl, born to self-indulgent, fashion-minded parents, is shipped off to her disgusting Uncle Simon for the summer in the town of Nummington. Her dreams of cakes and other desserts come true when she discovers the cake shop run by Mr. Crackle. There she makes a friend, Albie, and the three of them are blackmailed by her evil uncle and his friend. The rest is magical excitement. I believe this book will be enjoyed by many students.
