First great picture book of 2012!
Written by Mac Barnett, Illustrated by Jon Klassen
In the dark cold of winter Annabelle finds “a box of yarn of every color.” Whether the yarn is magical is never stated, but it is at the very least extremely abundant, as Annabelle discovers that the box keeps on giving and she is able to continually knit more colorful things for more people (and animals) in her little town. With this never-ending knitting Annabelle makes the town a much more colorful and cozy place. And she still has extra yarn, at least until a fashion-conscious archduke comes from across the sea to take it away.
This is a nice little fairy-tale styled story. The story is simply and impeccably written, and the stylish illustrations of Jon Klassen (I Want My Hat Back) bring the “cold little town” and its people to life. There’s not really anything I can think of that would improve this book; it is a very satisfying little picture book that I highly recommend and intend to add to my own collection.

We read this one the other day and were surprised to see the bear from I Want My Hat Back. Would love to win a copy for my daughter’s 4K-1st grade school.
Looks like a cute book, just judging from the cover (and the review!)
