The latest “If You Give…” Book

If You Give a Dog a Donut is the latest in the If You Give… series. This book follows the same pattern as the other books in the series – giving the dog a donut sets off a chain of events that eventually lead back to giving the dog another donut. While this is a cute story, it didn’t have the same charm as the other books have had. The illustrations are lighter, almost pastel in places, and more subdued in comparison to the bright, vibrant pictures that pull the reader into the other If You Give… books. The dog is white with a few brown spots, and on several pages the dog is pretty much the only thing on the page, so it’s basically white on white. Although the illustrations aren’t quite as lively, the book will still appeal to fans of the series.
