This is a very interesting story. If it were a movie, it would be a drama. The characters are realistic and lovable. Therefore, it is heart wrenching what takes place. The story is well written and flows well. It is definitely for a more mature reader because of the content. This story also falls into the genre of mystery. Upper elementary students could learn much from this story in many respects; social awareness of homelessness and racism, along with clues and predictions that go with mystery reading. I do recommend this book, but caution that it is a bit hard emotionally to read.
