It is ironic that I have read several dozen books in the year 2014, yet the book I finish on the last day of the year proves to be the very best. Winter Garden is a poignant story of a mother who lives through the siege of Leningrad during World War II, told to her children in the form a fairy tale. As the tale unfolds and the protagonist’s daughters learn more about their mother a great change happens to all three. This books is one I could not put down. It fed my historical curiosity, my love of a great story and, in the end, touched my heart and soul. Read the book, it will be worth it.
