Written and Illustrated by Hervé Tullet
This is a wonderfully creative, enjoyable book about the creation of a story. Some characters are hanging out at the beginning of the book when they realize the reader has come and picked up this book. The characters aren’t ready for the reader yet, so they call for help from a bad guy, then an author, and so on. The author does come up with a story, but the characters aren’t that impressed. The process of the characters is what’s interesting.
The B.L. level is 1.9. Some second grade students will get the story, but this book may also be used at higher levels to talk about how stories come into being.
The author also wrote Press Here and Mix It Up! Each of the books are very creative. This one is particularly good at drawing like a kid, thinking outside the box, and bringing elements together. The words aren’t the important part of this book – the ideas are.

Rating: ★★★★★ (5 stars)

This book is a story that is being written by the characters in the book, as you read it. There are questions posed to the reader that would make it fun for a parent to read and discuss with their child.
The pages are printed to look like a child has colored the book. I don’t prefer the materials used to make the book or the fact that it appears completely “home made.”

This author has become a favorite at our library and I can’t wait to get this new book! Very creative and thought provoking!
Students and teachers will love this book. Creative and fun way to teach elements of a story.
This would be hilarious to show the you tube video to the students just so they could hear another person reading it to them, not to mention the different accent. I can’t wait to get this one.
