Rescue on the Oregon Trail
Written by Kate Messner
If only Ranger wasn’t distracted by squirrels. Luke and his dad have been training Ranger, a golden retriever, to be a search and rescue dog, but his distraction keeps him from passing the test. One day, while digging in the garden, he unearths an old metal first aid box and there is a strange humming sound coming from inside. As Ranger pushes his nose through the leather strap attached to the box, a bright light appears and surrounds him and then there is a flash. Ranger feels like he is being squeezed through a hole. The humming and light disappear and Ranger finds himself on a dusty dirt road, crowded with people, wagons, and animals and nothing is familiar. Somehow, Ranger has been mysteriously transported to 1850 and the adventure of a lifetime. Find out what happens to Ranger, befriended by the Abbott family as they head West, and how his search and rescue skills become a matter of life and death along the Oregon Trail. Read Rescue on the Oregon Trail, book one of Ranger in Time, a new time traveling adventure series by Kate Messner. This is a very exciting easy chapter book full of adventure, action, family and history. Young readers will have a hard time putting this down as the characters and plot move the story along and you just can’t wait to find out what happens to Ranger next. The history is accurate and descriptive. If you are a young reader who loves history, time traveling and dog stories, this series is perfect!
