Back matter roots the story in Muir’s life’s work as a conservationist and naturalist. Fun and appropriate for late 2nd-4th grade students. I’d recommend this for reading aloud or for partner/small group reading and discussing. There are clear main ideas– about the kind of person John Muir was and his impact on how we should love and treat nature.

Some of those book cover will keep me up at night and I’m an adult! The Muir one is my pick, we camp in the mountains and John Muir’s history is there! We tend to stick more to the fun non fiction, right now it’s Don’t Stick Sticks Up Your Nose, Don’t Stuff Stuff in Your Ears by Jerald Altman MD. My kids just giggle, it’s funny but it get’s the point across so for me it wins! dontdtuffdontstick.com is his site for it.
