By Rafael Rosado and Jorge Aguirre
When her father doesn’t return from looking for the dragon that disarmed him, Claudette is determined to find him and slay the dragon that ate her father’s legs and swallowed his sword and hand. The evil sorcerer Grombach is trying to take over her village along with his menacing gargoyles. Claudette needs to get her father and his sword so that he can protect the town. So, Claudette enlists the help of her little brother, Gaston, who aspires to become a chef not a soldier, Marie, a princess in training (who also has seven princes in tow asking for her hand in marriage) and Valiant, her brave and feisty dog. Together they go after the dragon, but each has a very different way of approaching the problem. They all may be in more trouble than they imagined. Find out if the quest is successful in this fun and adventurous graphic novel. Young readers can identify with the personalities of the characters: Claudette, the feisty one; Gaston, the timid one; and Marie, the peacemaker. Each brings humor to Dragons Beware, the second in the Chronicles of Claudette series. I liked this novel because aside from the humor, there are themes of friendship, determination, and being true to yourself. And like the front cover says, heroes come in all sizes. Brilliantly illustrated in an easy graphic format, readers will love this book and the series and look forward to future adventures with Claudette, Gaston, and Marie.
