This counting picture book is not very scary, and it isn’t meant to be. It is a nicely done, well-illustrated children’s book about Halloween.
Nelly is invited to her friend’s house for a Halloween party. On her way she sees groups of creatures such as five grimy goblins, four mournful ghosts, three wheezy witches, and so on. This feeling of being followed all started with “one coal-black cat with an itchy-twitchy tail.” Kind of reminds one of the “12 Days of Christmas.”
My first grade students loved this book! They liked being able to predict the patterns. They liked the games at the party. And they enjoyed guessing the ending. Fun book.
