Written by Maryrose Wood, Illustrated by Eliza Wheeler
Fearing the fate of his unborn child will be as his own, Lord Ashton takes his wife, Lady Constance, to Brighton Beach for the winter. Here he must find out how to break the wolfish curse that haunts his family. Aided by governess Miss Penelope Lumley and his three wards, the Incorrigible Children (who by the way were raised by wolves), they seek out an ancient mariner, Pudge, who they believe knows the answer. But others are looking for answers too so it is a race against time. Lord Ashton must find out first to break the curse before a “barking baby Ashton” is born. The Unmapped Sea, book 5 in the series The Incorrigible Children of Ashton Place, is just a pleasure to read. The text and dialog flow so beautifully along to totally immerse the reader in the story. The characters are witty, smart and colorful. School Library Journal has said, “The Incorrigible Children is “Jane Eyre meets Lemony Snicket in this smart, surprising satire.” I loved this book and highly recommend this and the whole series for upper grades.
