Spirit Animals: Fall of the Beasts, Book 1
Written by Eliot Schrefer
While I haven’t read any of the other Spirit Animal books, I feel like now I need to. I really liked this story, even though I didn’t know any of the characters or what was going on. I didn’t understand why Zerif was such a big deal, or why it mattered that he was gathering all of the Great Beasts. I think for the kids that really like the original Spirit Animal series, they’ll also like this one. I’m really excited to read the original series and then come back to this one.
I think some people might have a hard time with how Kovo the gorilla is treated in the beginning, but it seems as though there’s a story that was probably explained in a different book. I liked the style of writing in this book and I’m interested to see if he will continue the series or if it will be various authors again.
This would be a great addition to any Spirit Animal collection, and a great read for Grades 4-6, but a higher reader in 3rd grade would do fine with it as well.

Thanks for the review Allyson, you really should read the original Spirit Animals series, I for one really liked them and so do many of my students. I’m excited to explore this breakoff series now.
The kids enjoy this series.
