Spunky Anna is not going to let danger, difficulty, or her alligator pal talk her out of finding gold. A beautifully illustrated tale of the power of imagination and the worth of a journey with a friend. I enjoyed seeing a strong girl of color main character and seeing a child do difficult things to accomplish her goal. Students will enjoy the colorful illustrations and humorous text. The unusual ending is a great conversation starter for the value of memories.

I really liked this one. The illustrations are much more interesting than I thought they might be, judging by only the cover. This is not just Mo Willems-style cartoons. (Not saying I have anything against Willems, he’s great at what he does. He just doesn’t do what Schwarz does here.)
Treasure hunts are always fun.
