Chris has been a media clerk at Stansbury Elementary for four years. Stansbury Elementary is one the biggest elementary schools in the district and Chris does a great job of managing a large volume of classes, without ever sacrificing quality time in which students get to self-select books.

What kind of reader were you as a child? What childhood books and authors stick with you the most?
Not a big-time reader. I remember staying home sick in 4th or 5th grade and reading Snow Treasure by Marie McSwigan in the big grey chair. By Junior High, I had started reading more.
What is the best book you were required to read as a student?
I remember reading Thomas Hardy novels in High School English class
What book did you hate reading as a student?
I cannot remember.
What is your favorite book to recommend to children?
There are so many… Pete the Cat by Eric Litwin, Fancy Nancy by Jane O’Connor, and the Elephant & Piggie books by Mo Willems.
If you could only bring three books to a desert island, which would you pack?
Life and Death in Shanghai by Nien Chang, The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, and my scriptures

I loved the Nightingale…it made me cry too.
One of my favorite read aloud story times was Fancy Nancy. I brought in some fancy clothes in a chest and we dressed up a student from each class with boas, hats, rings and such. The kids had a blast.
I also loved The Nightingale!
I love “Pete the Cat” books so much I did a whole bulletin board of him!
The kids definitely love the books you recommended. They are so fun!
So many have listed The Nightingale as a great read I will have to add that to my list.
