Because of the Sun

Written by Jenny Torres Sanchez

When her cold, distant mother is killed by a bear, Dani goes to live with an aunt she’s never known. Left alone a lot due to her aunt’s two jobs, Dani becomes numb to emotion and retreats inward, until she meets Paulo while taking one of her long daily walks. As the two begin to trust and feel affection for each other, she starts to connect with not only Paulo, but her aunt as well.

A potentially touching story about healing and coming of age, but the characters are one-dimensional and unbelievable. The plot is tortuously slow and hard to follow. People who like exaggeratedly sad books that make you cry or who want books dealing with friendship and healing will probably like this book, but it will most likely be painful to get through for most readers.
