This is a fascinating story that the children were surprised was based on a true event. A young farm girl loves books but they take over the family’s farmhouse, so her father and neighbors build a library for her. She calls it The Mermaid’s Purse and shares her books with the community. We learned what a mermaid’s purse was. I loved how the story showed people being kind, thoughtful, and helping each other.
