The Art of Polymer Clay: Designs and Techniques by Donna Kato (with hopes I will finally make a masterpiece)

What was the last great book you read?
100 Dresses: If the Magic Fits by Susan Maupin Schmid. Most of the books I read are for the library. This one was so delightful, and the main character so endearing, that it was a treat from start to finish.
The last book that made you cry?
This is tough because I DO NOT enjoy books that make me cry, so I do not choose to read them. Life is sad enough, without adding more sadness. I guess I would say Emmanuel’s Dream by Laurie Ann Thompson because I was so touched by his bravery and determination.
The last book that made you laugh?
Three Men in a Boat by Jerome K. Jerome. Over 100 years old, but still applicable and hilarious today.
What kind of reader were you as a child? What childhood books and authors stick with you the most?
My dad read to me when I was young and I then loved to read on my own. We didn’t have a TV, so reading was our entertainment. No computers meant our books were our resources. I still love the series Alfred Hitchcock and the Three Investigators by Robert Arthur, The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles by Julie Andrews Edwards, and books written by Agatha Christie.
What book did you hate reading as a student?
Reaching the depths of my memory… the only one I remember is Animal Farm by George Orwell. I hated it. Such cruelty and sadness.
What is your favorite book to recommend to children?
The Ranger’s Apprentice series by John Flanagan- Adventure, humor, life lessons, what’s not to like? And boys and girls love it.
If you could only bring three books to a desert island, which would you pack?
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by J.K. Rowling – the start of a wonderful adventure and I’d remember all seven books
- Survival: How to Survive on a Deserted Island by Simon F.– could come in handy
- My journal- the experience would be something to write about and I’d remember my past life in its pages

I remember reading an Agatha Christie book when I was maybe 12. I think it was And Then There Were None. Scared the crap out of me, and I haven’t read one of her books since.
I attended school in rural Utah. I had a wonderful teachers, but in class we didn’t do all the reading that students from more affluent areas read, or what students are required to read these days. Last night I finished reading “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee for the very first time. It was one of those gotta read books that I have just missed putting up to the top of my list, and I LOVED it. Great food for thought.
Thanks for giving me a few more books to think about. From the title “The Last of the Really Great Whangdoodles” by Julie Andrews Edwards just sounds like a fun book. Might have to look it up.

This is a great opportunity to learn about other media clerks and their interests. It makes me stop and think about the answers to the questions for myself. I will have to read The Ranger’s Apprentice so I can direct students to that series. Especially those that like adventure!
I love the variety of books you read. So many of those are favorites of mine as well. I read those Three Investigators books and all the Agatha Christie books because mysteries are so much fun.
