At the age of fourteen, Sophie uncovers a web of lies her parents have woven over the years and which ultimately destroys her world. Sophie is now left to discover her own identity and worth. Along that journey she learns empathy and realizes some of her peers are dealing with trials, too. Although the novel has merit, the writing style is extremely odd, a bit confusing, and does not quickly engage the reader. Unless this is an “assigned” text most readers will stop reading after a few pages.
