Refugee

Listen to this book in Granite’s OverDrive Digital Library

Written by Alan Gratz

Refugee is a very well written book. It weaves together the stories of three different refugee children: a Jewish boy from Nazi Germany, a Cuban girl in 1994, and a Syrian boy in 2015. The descriptions, while not graphic, are vivid and heart wrenching, and describe children in peril.
Gratz does a great job bringing his characters to life and helping the reader to feel empathy for them. I have also learned some facts about each time period that I didn’t know already. I would highly recommend purchasing this book, especially for Middle school and even High school. We have it in our Elementary school collection and I know several 5th and 6th grade students who will really like the book.
