The Great Spruce

Written by John Duvall, Illustrated by Rebecca Gibbon

The Great Spruce is the story of a boy, Alec, who loves trees, especially for climbing and playing in. There is one particular tree that he loves the most and that is the one Alec and his grandpa decorate together every year for Christmas. One year, Alec is heartbroken when he finds out that some men want to cut the spruce down and use as part of the city’s Christmas celebration. Alec discovers a way to save this tree so it can live on. The illustrations are beautiful and the story of caring and sharing compliments the holiday that is being celebrated. My 4-year-old granddaughter really enjoyed this as a read aloud.
