Hawk Rising

Written by Maria Gianferrari, Illustrated by Brian Floca

This story is written in verse and follows a father hawk as he hunts for food to feed his newborn babies. The watercolor images stunningly depict the vivid colors found in nature, particularly of the red-tail hawks and other wild animals depicted in the story. The illustrator was able to portray the father hawk successfully capturing dinner in a manner that will not scar young children. I found it interesting to read facts about red-tail hawks at the end of the book because the story had piqued my curiosity about these magnificent creatures.
