Not On Fifth Street

Written by Kathy Cannon Wiechman

A feud is brewing in the Brinkmeyer household. Brothers Gus and Pete, who once were close, can’t seem to get along as teenagers. When the Great Flood of 1937 swells the Ohio River and floodwaters start to take over their town and their home which is located high on Fifth Street, the brothers are forced apart. Will they be able to survive the flood and settle their differences? Will they come to realize what it really means to be a brother?
This story is based on a real storm that took place in 1937 in Ironton, Ohio, where the author’s father grew up. The Brinkmeyer family is fictional but the facts about the flood are real.
