Geraldine, by Elizabeth Lilly

Geraldine
Written and Illustrated by Elizabeth Lilly

Geraldine’s family is moving to a new town and she is not happy about it. Geraldine really sticks out at her new school because she is the only giraffe and everyone refers to her as “that Giraffe Girl.” She has no friends, is lonely, and doesn’t like feeling so different. Then Geraldine meets Cassie, who also doesn’t fit in with everyone else, and a beautiful friendship begins. I love this story and kids will be able to easily relate to not always feeling like you fit in. Great messages abound throughout this story – appreciating differences, learning to accept others, finding the things you have in common with others, loving yourself for who you are. Accompanied by fun watercolor illustrations, this is a beautiful tale of love, friendship and acceptance.
