Sarai and the Meaning of Awesome, by Saraí González and Monica Brown

Written by Saraí González and Monica Brown, Illustrated by Christine Almeda

Great book about a girl who learns the importance of working hard. Sarai learns that her grandparents and cousins have to move out of their rented house because it is being sold. She doesn’t want them to move so she tries to find ways to raise money so she can help her grandparents buy the house. With the help of her family, she earns some money. When she discovers that it is not enough money she is heartbroken. Her mother teaches her a great lesson that not everything we want will happen, no matter how hard we work at it. The final lesson that she learns is that she is not the only person who is awesome, it is her whole family because they worked together.
