Written by Pierre-Jacques Ober, Illustrated by Jules Ober and Felicity Coonan
World War I was a very difficult time for our world. Ober attempts to represent what it might have been like to serve and suffer in the war from a soldier’s point of view. The whole story is told using miniature figurines. The emotions of war and desertion and family are portrayed easily through the miniatures. This is not a happy story, as expected, but we can learn from the unhappy history. Hopefully we can avoid more of the sadness of war. This book makes me want that even more than before I read it.
