Francis the Donkey is the village shoemaker and he uses only the finest natural materials to create his shoes. One day he is asked to make a very special pair of shoes for the famous calypso singer, Miss Manatee. But, to his great dismay, Francis doesn’t have the tiger grass he needs to make her the perfect pair of shoes. He realizes he will have to leave the safety of the village and travel deep into the jungle to find his precious supplies.
On his journey, Francis encounters an amazing variety of animals, birds, and plant life that he’s never seen before and he’s afraid and wary of many of them. But, he soon discovers that none of them are really scary once they become his friends.
This graphic novel is not only a fun read, it also has interesting facts and information woven into the story line that children will easily pick up on so they can learn about the jungles of Guyana. I recommend this book for Third Grade and up.
