Fantastic Fist/MowTown

Midnight Arcade: A Play-Your-Way Adventure

Written by Gabe Soria, Illustrated by Kendall Hale

Gabe Soria has found a fun way to combine gaming with reading. The adventure begins when you take a subway to the end of the line and that’s when things get a bit bizarre. Soon you find yourself in the dark, creepy basement of an arcade. A teenager with glowing eyes shows you 2 games: Fantastic Fist and MowTown. Now it is time to choose. Both games offer excitement and peril. Yes, sometimes you don’t make it out alive. Overall, it is a fun reading ride, though the stories are on the simple side. One downside is that some of the vocabulary is a bit advanced for mid-grade readers, ie: cacophonous, bucolic, etc. It is never a bad thing for students to learn something new, but they might not stick with the book to the end. If they do, they will be highly entertained.
