Pie in the Sky

Written and Illustrated by Remy Lai

How many lessons can be learned from a cake?

Jingwen’s family moves from China to Australia, leaving behind his grandparents and friends. Jingwen feels like he moved to Mars. His inability to speak “martian” makes him isolated. His only companion is his annoying “booger” little brother, Yanghao, because the kids at his new school are “classmates-not-friends.” To cope, Jingwen makes cakes, just like the ones he baked with his recently deceased father. This story deals with grief, loss, friendship, family, honesty, and so much more. Pie in the Sky is thought provoking and entertaining. Be prepared to laugh, cry, and learn a many valuable life lessons as you read Pie in the Sky.
