Momentous Events in the Life of a Cactus

Written by Dusti Bowling

Aven Green is a typical 14 year-old teenage girl. She worries about boys, her makeup, wearing the right clothes and, most of all, she worries about starting high school. But, life is a little more complicated for Aven because she was born without arms. And that means 2,300 kids at her new school will be staring at her. Aven is usually confident and self-assured, but when a group of popular kids humiliate and mock her she withdraws emotionally from her friends and family. It takes a special person who comes into her life to restore her self-confidence and the belief that her disability does not define her or her future.
This is the sequel to Insignificant Events in the Life of a Cactus and it is equally as satisfying and uplifting as the first book. The author has created a strong, likeable, and believable character in Aven Green that the reader roots for from start to finish. I highly recommend this for 5th Grade and up.
