Mary Seacole: Bound for the Battlefield

Written by Susan Goldman Rubin, Illustrated by Richie Pope

This is the story of a woman of color who ministered to the sick and injured during the Crimean war. She was a contemporary of Florence Nightingale. Mary used herbal medicine from her upbringing in Jamaica to heal and comfort wounded soldiers. She saved many lives and should be remembered for her work. Another hidden history because of her skin color.
