Twelve year old Ruby comes to a new town with her mother, and she has secrets. What happened to her father? What does her mother do that embarrasses her? It’s much easier for her to remain “silent and invisible” than to make new friends. It has always been easier for her to put her head down and let her hair cover her face so she can hide behind the walls she has put up. But before long she has found two new friends with their own stories to tell. When rumors develop about the people she has come to love, she has to decide whether to be brave and break her silence or lose what she has found. I loved the characters in this book. We are all cheering for Ruby!
