Written by Stephanie Watson, Illustrated by Sofia Moore
Zora Webb loves to draw. She draws all the time whenever she can. Her fun pictures are fanciful and blend in the life around her. But then her mother is diagnosed with Leukemia. Life changes and so does Zora. She can’t find the will to draw, even to make her little sister Frankie happy. Zora’s anger at her art pulls her and Frankie into Pencilvania, a world based on all of Zora’s previous drawings. But her anger has led to the creation of an evil horse named Viscardi. Viscardi is determined to destroy Pencilvania. When he kidnaps Frankie, Zora must find the will to draw and overcome and embrace her past, as it is reflected in her art. The pictures are pencil drawings and blend well to the story, bringing it to life. Zora’s courage will inspire readers and could help them overcome the challenges they face in their own lives, as they see her learn coping skills on her adventure.
