Rise of Zombert

Written by Kara LaReau, Illustrated by Ryan Andrews

The cover illustration of a scraggly black cat sitting on a tombstone hints that this would be a good Halloween story. It is not based around Halloween, however, the storyline is strange and a bit creepy. It does deliver mystery and intrigue to find out what’s up with a mangy, blood-thirsty, conniving, stray cat found by two neighborhood friends. But that is as far as the story goes in book one. Not only did this book leave me hanging to find out what happens next, I felt the book ended before a story was fully developed. For this, I was disappointed. The black and white illustrations add interest and enhance the story.
