City of Dragons, #1
Written by Jaimal Yogis, Illustrated by Vivian Truong
Grace is suddenly forced to move to Hong Kong with her mom and new stepdad. Her biggest concern though is making friends at her new boarding school. While attempting to do this she attends a filed trip with her classmates where a mysterious old woman gives her a strange gem. The gem, however, turns out to be a dragon egg. Upon the egg hatching she learns that all the dragon stories her father told her just might be true. Grace learns that her dragon has powers that put her, the dragon, and the entire city in danger. It is up to Grace and her friends to uncover the plot threatening them, as well as learn how to take care of this new dragon.
This book is a graphic novel with anime type drawings. The story line teaches how people from different backgrounds come together and become a team. The artwork is fantastic, and the story line actually kept me wanting to read, even though I generally don’t like graphic novels. The book ends in a cliff hanger that makes me want to read the next one, because there clearly has to be a next one.
