I Love, love, love this book. It makes me wish my own granddaughter was close by so I could sit her in my lap and read it to her. I give Just Like Grandma five stars, which I rarely give as I read and review books. The story teaches the importance of role models and the great impact they can have on impressionable lives.
Becca loves spending time with her grandmother and wants to be just like grandma when she grows up. Little does she know; Grandmother strives to be just like Becca. This story is a beautiful celebration of a grandparent’s love for their grandchild and the Native American culture. Another nice element is that Grandpa is always there, welcoming them to dinner after they have finished an activity. The author includes a note at the end that discusses role models and how important they can be in our lives. Native culture is seamlessly written into the story, and Native illustrator, Julie Flett, shows the reader their culture in warm colors and softened images. This book would be a wonderful read aloud for Grandparent’s Day or any day you would want to celebrate a grandparent or a grandchild.
