A hole in the sidewalk turns out to be the perfect place to plant a tree. The neighborhood seems more vibrant somehow, as people mark the seasons by the changes to the tree’s leaves, take time to nurture its growth, and enjoy the surprises it brings: animals and shade! I loved that this book brought nature into the city and showcased just how important it can be to those who live around it. Just a lovely, and beautifully illustrated, ode to nature. This would be a good read aloud to celebrate Earth Day, community, or the seasons.
