Calling the Moon: 16 Period Stories from BIPOC Authors

Written by Various Authors, Edited by Aida Salazar & Yamile Saied Méndez

This was an interesting book. I liked the concept, and it is definitely book that could be useful to young girls who are going through their period and don’t have anyone to talk to. I like that it included different stories from different cultures. It was interesting to see the different ways people see periods. When I first read it, I was a little confused, but I ended up enjoying it. They were cute, quick stories. Each one is written by a different author, with different styles of writing, verse along with prose. Overall good book, but definitely a book for older students who know what periods are, so they aren’t surprised. There are anatomy words that may not be appropriate for lower grades.
