Monsters Among Us has some heavy topics for students. I don’t know if there are trigger warnings on books in our district, but this book has language, violence, rape, murder, abuse, and suicidal thoughts. I know some of our kids have been touched by these topics, but this was a hard read for me.
I liked the idea of having two timelines in the book, but struggled with the reality of Catherine’s flashbacks. I didn’t fully understand how a person who has gone through something as traumatic as Catherine has could just jump back into the real world.
I personally would not recommend this book for our libraries at school. I think there are other books that would fit our students better than this one.
