The Family Fortuna

Written by Lindsay Eagar

The Family Fortuna by Lindsay Eagar is a stunningly written story of a toxic family that just so happens to run a traveling circus. Avita is a young, proud girl who was born with a beak and feathers. She loves her charming/narcissistic father, who runs the circus and who uses her as the prize moneymaking attraction, a monster in a cage collecting screams and ticket fares. This is a bawdy and powerful story about stepping into your own power and owning your own face, flaws, monstrosities, and all. It feels almost like a slice of life, and all the siblings have their own side of the story and perspective. With flawed three dimensional characters, plenty of family drama, and showstopping worldbuilding, this book is a great addition to high school libraries.
