Rock Your Mocs

Written by Laurel Goodluck, Illustrated by Madelyn Goodnight

The catchy title caught my eye and I soon found out that “Rock Your Mocs Day” is a celebration of Native and First Nations cultures. On this day, Indigenous people honor their ancestors worldwide by wearing moccasins. In the story one meets Indigenous children as they celebrate their heritage in their mocs. There is a glossary with Nations and Tribe names with their pronunciations. In the informative back matter, one learns that moccasins are specific to the tribe or nation they come from. A special invite is given to all to celebrate this day, Indigenous or not. BTW, Rock Your Mocs Day is November 15th. So, enjoy this colorful picture book and get your mocs on! This would be a terrific addition to a library in need of diverse books specifically about Indigenous people.
