From Shore to Ocean Floor

The Human Journey to the Deep

Written by Gill Arbuthnott, Illustrated by Christopher Nielsen

From Shore to Ocean Floor is a great elementary level nonfiction book, filled to the brim with interesting facts and information about the ocean and our discovery of it. This book is published by Big Picture Press.

This book is beautiful and well bound. It begins with a note from the author, a companion of Jacques Cousteau. He comments that the ocean has always brought fascination and fear. As a people, we’ve slowly come to understand the magnitude of the ocean, we’ve also learned of it’s fragility. Chapters in the book include: Shore, First Investigations, Breathing Under Water, Lost at Sea, Staying Under, The Undersea World, The Sea Floor, Into the Abyss, Discoveries from the Deep, and Why the Oceans Matter.

You can open this book to any page and find something interesting. Each chapter and spread is different, filled with illustrations, games, borders, interest, maps, illustrations, measurements, etc.

I highly recommend this book, this is just the kind our students love.
