My Poet

Written by Patricia MacLachlan, Illustrated by Jen Hill

Patricia MacLachlan’s My Poet follows the adventures of an ambitious young poet who is following her neighbor (‘My Poet”) and inspiration as they travel around town. While both the poet and Lucy seek words, the poet offers simple advice to just look, listen, and feel. We learn that poetry is not just a bunch of words, they are feelings and observations. In the author notes we learn “my poet” is inspired by Mary Oliver, who lived in the same town as Patricia and inspired her through the magic of her poetry. Illustrator Jen Hill’s illustrations help bring you along on the adventures with their rich beachy colors and gentle details.
