The Light She Feels Inside

Written by Gwendolyn Wallace, Illustrated by Olivia Duchess

How do you feel when you are surrounded with people you love? Maya has a bright glow that she feels from inside. Sometimes she feels other feelings that make her glow not so bright. When she is sad or mad or frustrated, her glow gets heavy to carry. So, she shares her feelings with someone she trusts and learns to honor her feelings and find good ways to work through them and connect with others. When she realizes her bright glow comes from loving herself and others, she chooses to connect more with those she loves and share that love.

This book is visually very appealing. I think kids will be drawn to it in the library. The words might be not as clear, but as a read aloud, more kids will understand the message. With the short bio section at the end, kids can learn about some great women who shared their love and light with the world, as well.
