Written and Illustrated by Grahame Baker-Smith
This is a nonfiction picture book about the early history of the earth, before the plants and before the animals. The journey back in time starts with a boy named Kun who loves dinosaurs, and who I’m assuming is in Japan. Before the dinos, there were oceans and volcanos that covered the earth. You see the earth being hit by another small planet, the first single-celled life on Earth, and the first life under the oceans. The story kind of stops there and doesn’t go through the whole history of the dinosaurs and how animals evolved; it’s just like the early history of the earth. It jumps to a new character named Sloveig, who I’m guessing is in Iceland. I really liked the illustrations. The story seemed a little weak. I wish it didn’t switch characters and that it kind of tied up the history of the earth a little better. I’d say for readers in grades 2-5.
