Awe-Samosas!

Written by Marzieh Abbas, Illustrated by Bhagya Madanasinghe

This is one of the best culture picture books I’ve read! It’s about a girl and her dad from Pakistan, and her friends are coming over to her house for the first time. She wants to cook samosas like her Dadijaan, or grandma, does. The illustrations are really well done. You get a look into the Pakistani culture on how they tie their hair up, how they make food, and a little of the words in their language. It’s also a story about wanting things to go perfectly, and then having to roll with the punches and create something new. Sab theek hai. Sab theek hoga! Everything’s great. Everything’s going to be okay. And the endpages include a recipe of how to make your own awe-somosas, and a glossary. Loved it! And now I want samosas!
