Say My Name

Written by Joanna Ho, Illustrated by Khoa Le

This meaningful picture book is about six children of Chinese, Tongan, Persian, Navajo, Mexican, and Ghanaian descent. It is about the importance and meaning of their names. It instructs children about different languages and cultures. The interaction between the text and the illustrations is well done. I was excited to see a Tongan child represented. I have many requests at my school for books about children from the Polynesian culture. There is a useful afterword that helps with the pronunciation of each name and further explains the meaning and significance. Although this book will appeal more to teachers than students, it serves a good purpose.
