I loved this book! The main character was a Chinese American girl, which I was excited about it. It was full of themes of community, friendship, being true to who you are, and following your dreams. I think this book definitely fulfills a hole in our library as far as seeing an Asian female as the main character, and also gives us further insights as to what life looks like for that community and culture, including traditions and perspectives unique to the Chinese community. I also liked that Lily Hong was able to continue her path as a film maker, and her friend Max was able to continue in dance, interests/roles I feel are generally assigned to the opposite gender. What a great book that encourages learning about culture in a fun way!
