Written and Illustrated by Oliver Jeffers and Sam Winston
What a fun and clever story! Dictionary was sad because even though she held all the words of every story made, she didn’t tell a story herself. Then chaos begins: Alligator makes a break from its page in search of a snack, and by the end, all the words are a jumbled mess.
I love the creative illustrations, especially the spreads that come straight out of a dictionary. I am pretty sure children in this era might not know what a dictionary is. This would make an interesting step back in time lesson.
Make sure to read the definitions along the way. One of my favorites was the word “and” – a social word that likes to introduce other words to each other, as in rock “and” roll.
